Iceland packing essentials

Iceland's weather is notoriously changeable — locals say "if you don't like the weather, wait five minutes." The most important principle is layering: a moisture-wicking base layer, an insulating mid-layer and a waterproof/windproof outer shell. This works year-round. Even in July, temperatures can drop to 8°C and winds can be strong.

For glacier activities, the tour operator typically provides crampons and a harness. For ice caves, you need warm layers (thermal base + fleece + waterproof jacket) and sturdy waterproof boots — caves are 0–4°C with slippery floors. Read our full Iceland packing guide for more context.
