Quick reference (EUR to ISK)
Using money in Iceland
Iceland uses the Icelandic Króna (ISK). Card payments are almost universally accepted — even at remote petrol stations and small guesthouses. You rarely need cash. Visa and Mastercard are the most reliable; Amex is accepted in most tourist-facing businesses.
ATMs (called hraðbankar) are widely available in Reykjavík and at most petrol stations on the Ring Road. Be aware of dynamic currency conversion (DCC): always choose to pay in ISK rather than your home currency, as card-processor exchange rates are unfavourable.
Tipping is not customary in Iceland — service is included in the price. Prices are generally quoted with VAT included. Petrol is priced per litre in ISK: at ~330 ISK/litre, a full tank on the Ring Road can cost 15,000–25,000 ISK.
These rates are indicative snapshot values for trip budgeting purposes only. For live rates, check your bank or xe.com before travel.
